RULES/REGULATIONS

Golf Cart Laws and Safety Guidelines for Myrtle Beach, SC

Golf carts are a fun and convenient way to get around Myrtle Beach, especially in the busy summer months. But before you hop on and ride, it’s important to know the rules. Here’s what you need to know to stay safe and legal while enjoying your golf cart rental from Beach Golf Cart Rentals, LLC:

Where and When Can You Drive a Golf Cart?

✅ Golf carts are only allowed during daylight hours. Make sure to park your cart before sunset.
✅ Carts must be registered and permitted through the SC Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
✅ You can drive on secondary roads with speed limits 35 mph or less (no highways like Kings Highway or U.S. 501).
✅ You can drive up to 4 miles from the address where the cart is registered. If you’re in Pawleys Island, the limit is 2 miles.
✅ In North Myrtle Beach, golf carts are not allowed on Ocean Boulevard between 27th Avenue South and Sea Mountain Highway. However, you can cross these roads.
✅ Golf carts are allowed on Ocean Boulevard between 48th Avenue South and 33rd Avenue South, and from Sea Mountain Highway to 63rd Avenue North in Cherry Grove.

Who Can Drive a Golf Cart?

✅ Drivers must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
✅ Always carry your driver’s license, proof of liability insurance, and the golf cart’s registration while driving.

Golf Cart Safety Reminders

✅ Do not drive on sidewalks, bike lanes, or multi-use paths.
✅ Do not overload the golf cart – only as many people as there are seats.
✅ Do not park on the beach or at beach access points. From November 1 – February 28, golf carts are allowed on unincorporated Horry County beaches (except Surfside Beach).
✅ Keep an eye on kids and pets – golf carts are open-air and don’t have the safety features of cars. Make sure little ones can reach the floor and hold onto railings.
✅ Remember: Golf carts do not have lights, blinkers, or horns. Be extra cautious and follow all traffic laws.

Special Events and Road Closures

Golf carts may be restricted during major events or festivals. Local officials decide this case by case for safety reasons.
